The Soft'Up Pro 2 is the new generation of Freejump's Soft'Up Pro. It has a single load-bearing spring steel branch, an open Elastollan outer branch that swings open under pressure and an eye angled at 45 degrees. New are the reinforced bottom of the outer branch, the repairable build and the colour per component. At Maddelin in eight colours.
About this stirrup
Freejump has rebuilt its most widely known stirrup from the ground up. The principle stays the same: one load-bearing branch on the inside, an open outer branch that gives way, and a tread wide enough to keep your boot quiet. What has changed sits in the details, and those details are exactly the reason to choose this generation rather than the previous one.
What the branch does. According to Freejump, the single spring steel structure absorbs up to 30 percent of the forces acting on the stirrups. A damping elastomer is coupled to it, so that the whole works as a shock absorption system instead of passing the movement on undiminished. The centre of gravity is shifted forwards, which lets your heel hang lower and keeps your foot standing more quietly on the tread.
Outer branch and eye. The open Elastollan outer branch is made to swing open under pressure, which makes it easier for the foot to come free in a fall. The bottom of that branch is reinforced to take up the forces that reach the stirrup in a sharp turn or an unlucky movement; that is new compared with the Pro+. The main branch is also drawn to let the foot go without catching anywhere. The eye sits at 45 degrees, which makes it easier to drop your foot in and keeps your position in the saddle quiet. Freejump itself adds that its stirrups fall outside the category of personal protective equipment.
Repairable and in your colours. This generation is built from components that can be looked at separately, which makes the stirrup repairable rather than disposable. The metal studs in the sole are replaceable, so you rebuild the grip once they are worn down. At the manufacturer you put the colour together per component: main branch, small branch, tread, bottom cap, heel, shock absorber and pin. At Maddelin you choose from eight fixed combinations: Black, Red, Navy, Latte, Grey, Powder Pink, Choco and Teal Green.
What this stirrup is drawn for. In its own comparison Freejump gives this model the highest scores for showjumping and cross-country, a high score for hunter and the lowest for dressage. The shoe size starts at EU 37; below that the brand does not list it. Every pair is made to order in the brand's own workshop in France.
