The Premiere Merlin Duo is a clipping set with two machines: a large clipper for the body and a compact trimmer for the fine work. Both run cordless on a lithium-ion battery and charge over USB-C. With brushless motors, quiet running and a case with accessories, you have everything you need to clip a horse yourself and finish it off.
About this clipper
The biggest drawback of clipping yourself is that a machine that works well on a horse's body is usually too bulky for ears, jawline and pasterns. The Merlin Duo solves that with two units in one case. You do the body with the large clipper and switch to the compact trimmer as soon as you reach the fine areas. That way you do not have to compromise between speed and accuracy.
Both units have a brushless motor. A brushless motor has no carbon brushes that wear out, runs more evenly and makes less noise and vibration than a conventional motor. That matters most with young or nervous horses, which often react more to the sound and hum of the machine than to the clipping itself.
The large clipper has a ceramic top blade and a bottom blade with a ventilation structure. That ventilation lets air flow through the blade head so the heat can escape more easily during longer clipping. The cutting length of the large clipper adjusts across four settings, so you can choose how much coat you leave. The trimmer works with extra-hardened steel blades, which gives a clean line on narrow finishing work.
Both machines run on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and charge over USB-C, with two cables in the case. USB-C means you can also top them up from an ordinary phone charger or a power bank, which is handy when you are away from home. The case also holds attachment combs, oil and a cleaning brush.
