The ROECK-GRIP JUNIOR is the children's version of the ROECK-GRIP, in sizes 4 and 5. Roeckl lists the same construction as for the adult model: ROECK-GRIP® on the back of the hand and in the palm, an easy closure and touchscreen compatibility. A glove for young riders who want to feel the rein for themselves in lessons and at the riding school, and who need to be able to put it on and take it off on their own.
About these riding gloves
At Roeckl, the ROECK-GRIP JUNIOR is listed under item number 01-305207 and is the children's version of the ROECK-GRIP model that comes in sizes 6 to 11 for adults. Roeckl lists the same material construction for the junior version: ROECK-GRIP® on the back of the hand and in the palm, so no different material in the palm. The junior sizes are 4 and 5.
ROECK-GRIP® is the name Roeckl gives to that material, not a fibre declaration. Roeckl does not publish fibre percentages or fabric weight for this model; the composition is on the label inside the glove. What Roeckl does explicitly state are the two features that make the difference in everyday use: the model is touchscreen compatible, so a phone or stopwatch can be used without taking the glove off, and it has an easy closure, the name Roeckl gives to the fastening on this model.
Roeckl officially supplies the JUNIOR in white, buff (chamois), navy, mocha and black. Maddelin's range includes white, navy, mocha and black. For a young competition rider, that choice of colour is not a matter of taste but a matter of the rules.
Gloves are compulsory in dressage. Internationally the FEI asks for white, off-white or the colour of the jacket; Paardensport Vlaanderen specifies white, buff or the colour of the jacket and makes no exception for pony and junior riders. In showjumping they are not compulsory and there is no colour requirement, but they are permitted. In eventing it differs by phase: in the dressage test they are part of the compulsory dress and black is explicitly permitted, while in the showjumping phase and the cross-country they are not compulsory. In driving they are compulsory for the driver and for the groom as well. Under the LRV they are optional, with a preference for white in dressage. Rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country and change regularly: check the current rules of your own federation before you enter.
On sizing, Roeckl itself says the sizes given are a guide and that a riding glove should fit like a second skin, because rein contact calls for sensitivity. So measure the circumference of the hand around the knuckles, excluding the thumb, with a loose fist, and let that measurement decide between size 4 and size 5. Once the hand outgrows size 5, Roeckl's adult range starts at size 6.
For care, Roeckl publishes no model-specific instructions: the label inside the glove is the source, and the machine washing guidance only applies to gloves with the label “machine washable”. If the model carries that label, close any hook-and-loop fastening neatly first, do not turn the glove inside out, wash on a delicate cycle or at 30 °C without fabric softener, and let it dry flat at room temperature — not in the tumble dryer, not on the radiator. Put the glove on a few times while it dries: that way it keeps the shape of the hand.
