These Kentucky tendon boots for the front legs have a TPU outer shell with a bamboo insert and are finished on the inside with vegan wool: a soft, synthetic plush lining without animal fibres. You choose them if you would rather have a full, soft lining against the skin than a flat fabric. Meant for jumping work and training, in black, brown and old rose.
About these tendon boots
This model is the lining variant within the same Kentucky range. The shell is identical: TPU, anatomically shaped, with ventilation holes at tendon height, a larger triangular mesh panel lower down on the shell, a bamboo insert that reinforces the tendon zone and a soft natural rubber insert on the flex zone. The inside was given an extra TPU layer against wear. So in terms of build, there is nothing to choose between them here.
The difference lies entirely in what sits against the skin. Instead of a flat knitted spacer fabric, Kentucky finishes this version with vegan wool — the same material the brand has used for years in headcollars, show rugs and girths, among other things. It is a plush lining of synthetic fibres, without sheepskin or other animal fibres. The pile is thicker and fuller than a spacer fabric and extends beyond the edges of the shell, so that the hard edge nowhere lies straight on the skin.
That makes it above all a choice for horses that react sensitively to a hard edge, or for riders who want a soft finish around the top edge and the fetlock. It is not a choice for more protection: on both models that comes from the same shell and the same bamboo insert. Kentucky publishes no comparative data on how much heat or moisture each lining holds, so we make no statement about that.
You fasten them with two elastic straps, each of which goes over a stud fastening, with holes to choose the tension. Kentucky runs this fastening system as a line of its own alongside a version with hook-and-loop fastening. An elastic strap gives during the movement, but you set it before you put the boot on, not once you are out.
Keep the upkeep in mind. A full pile holds sand and dust more readily than a flat fabric, and so asks to be brushed out and washed a bit more consistently. Beyond that: this is a model for the front legs, not for behind, and a boot with a closed shell simply holds more heat than a bare cannon.
