The Roeckl Weldon is a winter glove for riders who keep riding through the cold months. Roeckl lists Polartec® Power Stretch® Pro for this model, on both the back of the hand and the palm, and also notes COMFORT-CUT, a SILICONE-GRIP, touchscreen compatibility and reflective design elements. At Maddelin in black, in sizes 6 to 11 including half sizes.
About these riding gloves
The Weldon stands apart within the Roeckl range at Maddelin. Where many Roeckl models are made in ROECK-GRIP®, Roeckl lists Polartec® Power Stretch® Pro for the Weldon, on the back of the hand and in the palm. Roeckl says the material provides warmth while keeping freedom of movement. That remains a material name rather than a fibre composition: Roeckl does not publish percentages for this model, and the composition is on the label inside the glove.
Roeckl notes four features for this model. According to Roeckl, the SILICONE-GRIP is a silicone-printed palm that enhances grip on the rein; among the Roeckl models in Maddelin's range, Roeckl lists it for the Weldon only. The reflective design elements bounce light back. Touchscreen compatibility means you can use your phone without taking the glove off, and COMFORT-CUT is Roeckl's name for the cut; the manufacturer does not specify exactly what that cut involves.
That makes the choice between the Weldon and the ROECK-GRIP WINTER fairly clear-cut. The ROECK-GRIP WINTER is the winter version of the ROECK-GRIP: ROECK-GRIP® laminated on both zones, with easy closure as its only listed feature and no touchscreen compatibility. You choose that one if you want to keep the familiar ROECK-GRIP feel through the winter. You choose the Weldon if the silicone grip, the reflective details and the touchscreen function matter to you.
At Maddelin the Weldon comes in black. Roeckl also makes the model in navy blue and mocha, but those two are not in the range. For competition riders, that single colour has consequences. In dressage, gloves are compulsory, internationally in white, off-white or the colour of your jacket, and Paardensport Vlaanderen prescribes white, buff or the colour of the jacket. Black is not listed as a separate colour in those international dressage rules. In the eventing dressage test, however, black is explicitly permitted, which makes the Weldon a practical glove for the event rider at a cold winter competition. In showjumping and cross-country, gloves are not compulsory and there is no colour requirement. In international driving they are compulsory, for the groom as well. For ridden classes with the LRV they are optional, with white preferred in dressage. Rules differ by federation, discipline, level and country and change regularly, so check the current rules of your own federation before you enter.
A winter glove should fit closely too: in its own sizing advice Roeckl says a riding glove should fit like a second skin, because you hold the rein with sensitivity. The Weldon comes in half sizes from 6 to 11, the full range Roeckl lists for this model.
